Structural Steel Modular Material Handling System

The Ocean Eliminator Modular Material Handling System is a totally modular system comprising 3 components that can be added to the system at any time without any modification. Unlike other competitive material handling systems, the entire Ocean Eliminator is supplied as a complete, easy-to-install system and includes the variable speed drives, operating control pedestal as well as all the hoses and fittings.

The Ocean Eliminator eliminates the unnecessary material handling in structural steel that is destroying productivity and profitability. On average fabricators handle each beam 17-20 times from the time the raw material arrives at his shop to the time it has it on the truck ready to be shipped to site.

Removing this non-value-added component from your fabrication process must be one of your highest priorities.

And to this end, Ocean Machinery designed a totally modular system that can be modified, extended or upgraded at any time, not locking in the customer to a system that gets outdated the minute it is installed.

The Ocean Eliminator Material Handling System is ideal for saws, beam drilling or punching lines, beam coping lines, shot blast machines, paint lines, etc, and will help you significantly reduce your labor and fabrication costs, as well as improve the safety of your workplace.

So when you purchase the Ocean Eliminator System, you have no hidden costs.

The Three Components of the Eliminator System are:-

Electrically Powered 30″ and 44″ Wide Roller Conveyors

  • The powered roller conveyors are available in 4′ and 9′ lengths using 3″ OD rolls on 18′ centers. Any length of in-feed or out-feed conveyor can be created by a combination of 4ft and 9ft sections. (Note: A 1 ft gap between adjacent roller sections allows the insertion of cross transfer tables at any time.)
  • The drive is provided via an electric inverter drive with variable speed control driving a heavy duty #60 chain over covered chain sprockets.
  • A typical roller conveyor system comprises in and out feed conveyors and requires one Master drive control plus one Slave drive.
  • The control pedestal allows the selection of either infeed or out-feed conveyor (or both) and a control joystick to select direction and speed.

Hydraulically Powered Cross Transfer Conveyors

Cross transfers are used for easy loading and off-loading from your roller conveyors, and are useful in creating a space efficient buffer zone between two machines. Buffer zones are critical to efficient operation especially when each machine has a different processing time.

Cross transfers are available in standard 20ft or 40ft lengths. The 20ft length is used when you only require the material to be moved off one side of the conveyor line. If you want the option of moving the material off either side of the conveyor, then the 40ft cross transfer is used.

Cross transfers are usually 4 or 5 arm systems, and feature chain driven transports using heavy duty #100 chain. These hydraulic lift and carry units move at 20ft per minute in either forward or reverse directions.

Remote Controlled Measuring Stop

The Ocean Eliminator Remote Controlled Measuring system features a stop that is attached to the out-feed conveyor on the machine (typically a band saw or coping machine).

From the part to be cut, the operator sends out the measuring stop to the correct position which is displayed on a CCTV monitor that accurately displays the length to be cut.

Material handling can be one of the most time-consuming, non-value-adding tasks performed in a fabricating shop.

Any fabricator dealing with long heavy profiles that either uses overhead cranes or forklifts to position and move the profiles, should seriously consider using the Ocean Eliminator modular material handling system.

In small shops customers start small purchasing just the roller conveyors, and as their business expands and their needs grow, they add the measuring system and cross transfer conveyors

Here are some of the more commonly asked questions

What profiles can the Eliminator move?

The Ocean eliminator system can move all steel profiles including beams, channels, angle, flat bar and more. The system is not ideal for round pipe as it can roll off the conveyors but several of our customers had added vertical retainers to be able to handle round profiles.

What is included with the Ocean Eliminator?

The Ocean Eliminator material handling system is supplied with all the components included.

Who installs the Eliminator?

The entire Ocean Eliminator System is simple to install and most customers install the various components themselves. Ocean Machinery does offer an optional installation service at competitive rates.

Very detailed installation instructions are supplied with the system. The items that the customer needs to provide will be anchor bolts, as well as an impact drill and wrenches.

How much in-feed and out-feed conveyor do I need?

This typically depends on the stock length of the raw steel that you purchase, but in most cases we recommend 45ft of infeed and 45ft of out-feed. Obviously this will easily handle 40ft (12m) stock lengths, but will also handle 60ft (18m) beams with the ends cantilevered over the ends of the roller conveyors.

What length of Cross Transfer arms should I purchase?

Our 20ft cross transfer arms are designed for loading and offloading profiles to and from your roller conveyors from one side. This gives you a lateral loading area of approximately 15ft and creates a valuable buffer zone of work in progress. If you want to load or offload your steel profiles on either side of the roller conveyor then we recommend using our 40ft cross transfer arms.

How many Cross Transfer arms should I purchase?

Most cross transfer systems comprise either 4 arms or 5 arms per side. It is important to have at least two cross transfer arms close together (say around 5-10ft apart to handle short parts)
Heavier profiles like Jumbo Columns might require 6 or more arms to ensure that these heavy profiles can be transported. Each cross transfer arm can lift 2,500lbs

Can I install the Eliminator Material handling system outside?

It is very popular to install the infeed cross transfers and roller conveyors outdoors to minimize the impact on the valuable shop floor space, and we have many installations outdoors.
In very cold climates it will be necessary to install an immersion heater in the cross transfer hydraulic tank to get the hydraulic fluid up to operating temperature. Also understand that snow can melt and freeze and this can adversely affect an outdoor installation in extreme climates.

Operating the Ocean Eliminator Material Handling System is simple and no previous experience is necessary. The Eliminator is a fully manual operation.

All controls are clearly marked, depicting what each button does.

The Ocean Eliminator System is a modular system that ships with all components to be a plug and play fully functioning system.
