Ocean Machinery President, Danny Steyn, has had an excellent start campaigning his Ocean Machinery Mazda MX-5 in the SCCA Super Touring Lite class this season. After the first 4 events of the Hoosier Super Tour, Steyn has a comfortable lead in the points, but more impressively, he has set a new track record at all 4 events – Homestead Motor Speedway, Sebring International Raceway, Circuit of the Americas, and Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta.
This past weekend, at Road Atlanta, in Saturday’s Race 1, Steyn lowered his own track record by 0.267 seconds, setting a new time of 1:35.212 in perfect conditions.
But as we all know, pride comes before the fall, and in Sunday’s race 2, run in pouring rain, while comfortably leading the field by over 15 seconds, Steyn aquaplaned and slammed into the Turn Four tire wall, heavily damaging his car. He was still able to rejoin the race but finished down in 8th place.
Steyn’s car is prepped by OPM Autosports, powered by Nelson Engines, stopped by G-Loc Brakes, and shod with Hoosier Racing Tires. Special thanks to Mazda Motorsports.
