The Next Generation of Structural Steel Processing

Cuts | Drills | Copes | Bevels | Part Marks | + More

When it comes to modern fabrication, efficiency, precision, and automation are everything. The Ocean GLADIATOR is a powerful structural steel beam laser system designed to streamline beam processing while reducing floor space, labor, and operating costs. Instead of relying on multiple machines to cut, drill, cope, and mark steel profiles, this advanced solution performs all these operations in one compact system.

One Structural Steel Beam Laser That Does It All

Traditional fabrication lines often require separate machines for cutting, drilling, coping, and marking. The GLADIATOR eliminates that inefficiency by integrating every operation into one highly capable structural steel beam laser platform.

Using advanced 3D laser technology, the system can:

  • Cut beams and columns to precise lengths
  • Laser-cut bolt holes and connection features
  • Cope flanges and webs with extreme precision
  • Etch part marks directly onto the profile

By consolidating multiple operations into a single structural steel beam laser, fabricators can simplify workflow, reduce handling, and improve overall productivity on the shop floor.

Compact Design That Maximizes Floor Space

One of the biggest advantages of the GLADIATOR structural steel beam laser is its innovative cantilever design. The machine travels on precision rails while maintaining an exceptionally compact footprint.

Compared to conventional drill-saw lines and coping systems, this structural steel beam laser requires less than half the floor space, making it ideal for fabrication shops looking to maximize production capacity without expanding their facility.

Even better, the system delivers this performance at less than half the cost of traditional drill-saw and coping lines, providing a powerful return on investment for structural steel fabricators.

Higher Material Yield with Smart Cutting

Efficiency doesn’t stop with speed and automation. The GLADIATOR structural steel beam laser also improves material utilization through the use of common cutlines and narrow kerf widths.

This allows fabricators to process multiple parts from a single long stock length, maximizing yield from every beam. The result is less material waste, lower costs, and greater profitability on every job.

For fabricators producing skids and structural platforms, the system can also cope flush to the inside of the flange, making it perfect for producing cross-members used in welded skid assemblies.

Built for Large Structural Profiles

The GLADIATOR beam laser is available in three machine configurations designed to accommodate a wide range of structural profiles.

Machine capabilities include:

  • Processing lengths up to 40 ft, 50 ft, or 60 ft
  • Beam flange heights 4 inches up to 19.7 inches
  • Web widths 7.8 inches up to 49 inches
  • Channel flanges 2 inches up to 9.8 inches

This flexibility makes the Ocean GLADIATOR beam laser ideal for fabricators working with beams, columns, channels, and angles across a variety of industries.

World-Class 5-Axis Laser Technology

At the core of the system is Penta Laser’s advanced 3D five-axis cutting technology, delivering the precision required for complex structural cuts and coping geometries.

The GLADIATOR also meets European CE safety standards, featuring a fully enclosed cutting area and triple safety interlocks that protect both operators and equipment during operation.

A Smarter Way to Process Structural Steel

For fabricators looking to modernize their operations, the GLADIATOR offers a smarter, more efficient solution. By combining multiple fabrication processes into one compact structural steel beam laser, shops can increase production capacity, reduce handling, and significantly lower operating costs.

The result is faster throughput, higher precision, and a competitive edge in today’s demanding structural steel market.

The Ocean GLADIATOR Structural Steel Beam Laser is a fully integrated structural steel processing solution designed to cut, drill, cope, and mark — all in one ultra-compact system. Built specifically for fabricators who demand speed, precision, and maximum material yield, the GLADIATOR delivers unmatched performance in less than half the footprint and at less than half the cost of traditional drill-saw and coping lines.

The Ocean GLADIATOR Structural Steel Beam Laser is designed specifically for fabricators that need to do more than put holes in steel profiles of all types. Consider the following questions and determine if this machine fits your needs:

  • Do you need to cut, drill and cope, bevel and part mark in a variety of steel profiles including beams, channel, angle, plate, square profiles, etc?
  • Do you regularly use a tape measure, framing square, chalk and a center punch to layout positions and then either drill the steel with a mag drill or use a punch to produce the holes, make cuts with a torch and grinder, etc.?
  • Are you looking for a faster, cheaper way to do it?
  • Are you limited by the amount of space you can dedicate to beam fabrication?
  • Are you limited by the amount of capital that you can invest in a beam line or beam fabricating machinery?
  • Is your current method of beam drilling and beam fabricating too costly to compete with the bigger fabricating shops and do you lose out on those profitable big jobs?
  • Do you process skids with coped cross-members? Are you struggling to accurately cut these copes? Do you end up with copes that do not fit cleanly that require too much weld to fill the gaps? Are your coped cross-members requiring many man hours to grind and clean to remove the slag and dross? Does your robot plasma coper overcut your cross-members through the web, requiring you to weld the overcut closed?
  • Do you have to turn away big jobs because you cannot physically process the larger and heavier profiles?
  • Do the larger General Contractors skip your company when sending out the bids because you cannot process a large structural job or beam job fast enough?
  • Do you struggle to find good quality fabricating labor when you land a large job, and do you have use valuable skilled labor to train your new recruits?
  • If your layout man skips work for a day or two, does that affect your ability to process and fabricate beams?
  • Are you struggling to land steel fabricating jobs in your market?
  • Do you feel your competitors are throwing out insanely low numbers to land the work?
  • Are you finding that you are struggling to make any money on the jobs you land – those jobs that you bid low enough to get, leave no you profit at all?
  • Do you want to make more PROFIT?

If you answered YES to any of the questions above you are a prime candidate for the outstanding Ocean Gladiator Beam Laser.

Here are some of the more commonly asked questions

What is the target market for this machine?

The Ocean GLADIATOR Structural Steel Beam Laser is designed for customers who require more sophisticated processes than just standard hole drilling (for which the Avenger Forty CNC Beam Drill Line is perfect). If you need to cut, drill, cope, bevel, part mark, etc, then the Ocean Gladiator is the perfect machine for you.

Why is the Gladiator the Perfect Skid Coping Machine?

When producing skids, you have long rail members and cross members that have to be coped to be welded into the main rails. These copes require perfect fitment so that the welding can be optimized.

    1. Manual Coping requires reading the cope from the drawing, accurately manually laying out the cope, and then manually oxy-fuel or plasma cutting the cope, which is never perfectly accurate, and often needs grinding to clean it up, and of course, this burns valuable man hours.
      manual coping
    2. Oxy Fuel Copers, such as the Ocean Liberator, leave small tabs after coping and these tabs have to be manually ground off to finish the cope so that it is suitable for fitting in the cross members.
      oxy fuel cope tab 02
    3. Robotic Plasma Copers, of which there are many brands, have large diameter plasma nozzles that prevent the coper from cutting flush to the underside of the flange, which is required when a “full tongue” cope is required. This requires the plasma head to be rotated to make a beveled cut of the web, and then when the flange is cut, it creates a stress raising cut into the web that has to be welded closed, and ground. And of course, plasma coping leaves slag which has to be ground away on all cut sides, prior to welding. All of this is not ideal when creating thousands of skid cross members, as you are just burning man-hours.

    4. The Ocean Gladiator Fiber Laser, however is completely different. When cutting in the web, the laser source is automatically positioned just above the web creating a thin, accurate and perfectly clean cut through the web, leaving no slag. As the torch gets near the web, the torch automatically lifts up above the flange, and cuts from this elevated position, completely flush with the inside of the flange, allowing a perfect “full tongue” cope that can easily be welded in place in the skid, without ANY additional clean up or weld fill. This saves THOUSANDS of man-hours when producing lots of skids, creating massive profit margins for the sensible fabricators that have invested in this unique and versatile machine.

Is the Gladiator a replacement for the Avenger PLUS?

NO, while both machines may share several functions, overall they possess two totally different sets of capabilities. The Gladiator can cut, cope, mark, and bevel in addition to “drilling” holes – while the Avenger PLUS can thread, countersink, counterbore, scribe and mill in addition to drilling holes.

Does the laser cutting head make contact with the profile?

No, the precision fiber laser cutting head is fitted with a non-contact capacitance sensor that automatically sets the laser height and automatically tracks the cut. The cutting head floats over the surface to be cut, adjusting to the variance in profile conditions, greatly improving the cutting process.

Is the programming of the Gladiator complicated?

No, the Ocean GLADIATOR utilizes Penta Laser’s custom software that offers a comprehensive profile-cutting library with macros designed to maximize cutting efficiency and cut quality. The software also features bulk import of Tekla NC1 & 3D CAD STEP files (Solid Works, Inventor, etc.) The laser, as well as the software, are both simple and easy to use, making the overall operator experience intuitive to perform.

What skills does my operator need to run the Gladiator?

We recommend that your Ocean GLADIATOR operator is someone understands thermal cutting and cares about accuracy. It helps if he has some experience on CNC machines. We can train almost any operator very quickly on the software side of the machine, but the skill and experience of laser cutting is learned faster by someone who knows what a good thermal cut looks like, and avoids creating slag and dross, so that no grinding is required with the cut is complete.

The Ocean GLADIATOR Structural Steel Beam Laser utilizes Penta Laser’s custom software and CNC machine operation system to cut, drill and cope a diverse range of structural steel profiles using a high-power focused laser source. The laser, as well as the software, are both simple and easy to use, making the overall operator experience intuitive to perform.
